‘Hussein Who Said No’ screens in Iraq

Iranian religious biopic ‘Hussein Who Said No’ has been screened as a special guest at the last day of Al-Nahj Film Festival in Iraq.

The screening of ‘Hussein Who Said No’, directed and written by Ahmad Reza Darvish, took place yesterday April 5 at the festival’s closing ceremony during which the film was warmly received.

Ahmad Reza Darvish’s picture is a historical religious film on Imam Hussein (AS) which has been dubbed in different languages including English and Arabic.

3D Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) technique has been used to create some scenes of the film.

Seven Arab actors from different countries have played a role in this film including, Jamal Suliman from Syria, Dawood Hussain from Kuwait, Javad al-Shekarchi from Iraq as well as Foad Ebrahim from Lebanon.

Oscar-winning composer Stephen Varbk has produced the music for ‘Hussein Who Said No’ which was recorded in Moliner Music Studio in London.

‘Hussein Who Said No’ is a narrative on Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) uprising leading to an unfair battle that exerted influential effects on Islamic history. Imam Hussein (PBUH) and 72 of his loyal companions, including his family members, were martyred on Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram, in the battle of Karbala against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, in 680 AD.

Al-Nahj International Film Festival is an NGO and a film festival specializes with the short films (Narrtive, Documentary, Animation) held by the Karbala satellite channels group in Iraq.

The 2017 edition of Al-Nahj International Film Festival was organized from 1st to 5th April, 2017.
